We did just that through Change the Pattern—a collaboration with the AIDS Memorial Quilt, museums, and gallery spaces across the South. Through quilting, gallery talks, and education—we reached thousands of visitors. This survey explores how cultural institutions can leverage public health priorities, making greater partnerships possible. In these turbulent times, we still hold the answers for protecting our culture—and our communities’ health. ”
Why this survey and why now?
Our cultural institutions are bold–navigating shrinking budgets, politicized attacks, and shifting expectations from funders and communities. We want to uncover new pathways for partnerships that better position our institutions as anchors for community well-being and advocacy in today’s challenging environment.
Nia Creative Solutions created the For the Culture Assessment to explore how cultural institutions can actively participate in improving health outcomes in their communities.
By integrating wellness programming, museums can fill critical gaps, offering reliable information, safe spaces for learning, and even screening and health services. In doing so, museums not only strengthen community trust but also demonstrate leadership in advancing public well‑being where access may otherwise be limited.

What will we do with this data?
We believe that information collected from community, must be returned to community. Your identifying information will be removed, and all responses will be shared anonymously. It will be compiled for a report that will be distributed to respondents, cultural networks, potential funders, and other partners.
